About the roleWe’re seeking a Senior Engineer with a strong background in vapor intrusion (VI) mitigation for environmental site remediation for federal and global private sector clients. Knowledge of VI investigations and data interpretation that drive mitigation decisions is also required. Mitigation projects range from small residential structures to large government and manufacturing buildings hundreds of thousands of square feet in size.
Based in the continental United States, you’ll work with other scientists, engineers, subject matter experts, and project managers on exciting projects nationwide and globally. You’ll work mainly in the office on tasks that may include:
- VI mitigation strategy development
- Making recommendations for VI investigation and mitigation to internal teams and clients
- Leading VI mitigation design teams
- Preparing VI mitigation designs
- Preparing detailed VI mitigation cost estimates
- Supporting internal teams developing proposals for VI mitigation
- Preparing construction and bid documents
- Applying continuous improvement processes and lessons learned to internal VI mitigation designs
- Supporting internal project managers and designers across Jacobs integrated services
- Building client relationships via internal project teams
- Reviewing documents
- Data interpretation and visualization
- Report writing
- Staff mentorship
- Regulatory agency interaction and correspondence
You'll be juggling multiple tasks, so we’ll rely on you to prioritize effectively, keeping the big picture in mind. Safety will be your priority, contributing to operational excellence and maintaining the highest standards of Health & Safety and Environmental Compliance in everything you do.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Experience with VI mitigation and investigation including understanding existing VI-related data sets, assessing mitigation alternatives, preparing detailed cost estimates, designing active and passive subslab depressurization systems and vapor barriers, and preparing and implementing operation and maintenance plans.
- Experience engaging with internal project teams, external clients, and regulators to ensure that they understand the ins and outs of mitigation implementation at a given site, facility, or structure.
- Experience as a senior engineer at environmental remediation sites involving contaminated media including soil, soil vapor, indoor air, sediments, and groundwater
- Experience conducting site investigations/characterizations, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, engineering evaluations, and remedial designs/actions
- Experience identifying and resolving key issues impacting remedy (that is, mitigation) implementation (technical, regulatory, risk, stakeholder, land use, etc.) and emerging issues
- Experience with leading a team in implementing mitigation approaches and operations and maintenance and effectively managing change over time
- Experience as a liaison or point of contact communicating effectively between contractors, team members, regulatory agencies, property owners, other consultants, and clients
- Master’s degree in engineering
- Ability to think strategically but also critically analyze details
- Ability to listen to stakeholders’ concerns and provide pertinent and timely feedback when needed most by those stakeholders
- Ability to think on multiple levels while gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing all relevant data to make sound recommendations
