Medical Assistant
As the Medical Assistant, you will assist clinicians with routine clinical procedures and tests in the exam room. You will advise patients of preparation and testing required for exams, ensure all pre‑visit work and test results are available in the EMR, and provide direct clinical support to assigned clinicians.
Primary Responsibilities- Provides efficient flow of patients to optimize appointment availability
- Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms according to policy and procedures
- Prepares patient for examination; measures vital signs including blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, and height
- Assists clinicians with routine clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department, and advises patients of preparation or pre‑visit testing required for those exams
- Ensures patient EMR is updated with medical information, including recent testing and consultations, confirms demographic information, medications, allergies, and chief complaints, and keeps data accurate and up to date
- Keeps patients informed of visit status, unforeseen delays, and other relevant information
- Reconciles medications and sets up pending refills; discontinues prescriptions that are no longer active
- Assists in resolving minor patient concerns and complaints as appropriate
- Orders and performs point‑of‑care testing on patients (waived testing such as strep, urine, HCG, glucose)
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate from an accredited institution or governmental unit or a Medical Assistant Certification
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Understands the testing procedure and factors influencing test results
- Computer experience with word processing and spreadsheet programs, and/or electronic medical record (EMR) experience or aptitude to master EMR based on other technology experience
- Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program
- Experience typically acquired through 1+ years of experience in a clinical or customer service setting (a bachelor’s or associate degree may substitute for experience)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty
- Knowledge of reagent stability and storage
Pay is based on several factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, and more. The hourly pay ranges from $16 – $29 per hour for full‑time employment.
