Alarm New England is currently looking for a Laborer to Assist in Fire Alarm Inspections. The Fire Alarm Inspection Laborer assists licensed fire alarm inspectors and technicians with the inspection, testing, documentation, and maintenance of fire alarm systems in commercial, residential, industrial, educational, and healthcare facilities throughout Massachusetts. This role supports inspection operations by performing non-licensed tasks, preparing equipment, documenting device locations, assisting with testing procedures, and ensuring work areas remain safe and organized.

The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, comfortable working in various environments, and interested in developing knowledge of fire alarm systems and life safety codes.

What you'll do:
  • Assist lead inspectors during fire alarm inspections and testing activities.
  • Help test initiating devices including smoke detectors, pull stations, heat detectors, duct detectors, tamper switches, and waterflow devices.
  • Operate ladders and basic hand tools safely.
  • Carry equipment, testing supplies, batteries, and replacement devices as directed.
  • Record device locations, deficiencies, and inspection results using inspection forms or mobile software.
  • Label devices and assist with updating panel directories and system documentation.
  • Notify building personnel prior to testing and help maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist with sensitivity testing preparation and device cleaning when required.
  • Verify device accessibility and report damaged or obstructed equipment.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and inventory in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Learn and comply with applicable requirements of:
    • National Fire Protection Association standards
    • Massachusetts fire codes
    • Company inspection procedures
  • Travel to customer locations throughout Massachusetts as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and in mechanical rooms, ceilings, and occupied buildings.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer and smartphone/tablet skills.
  • Must complete OSHA 10 certification within first week (if not current).

Preferred:

  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in fire alarm inspection or life safety systems.
