Job DescriptionBOURNE PUBLIC SCHOOLS – Speech and Language – Job Description JD95
Reports to:
Director of Special Education and Student Services / Principals
Job Goal:
To provide therapeutic services to identified students exhibiting communication and/or hearing impairments in order to develop receptive and expressive language skills
- Adhere to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice.
- Develop, implement and coordinate speech-language services within the Bourne Public School community.
- Evaluate students using appropriate tests, skilled professional observation and supplementary information provided by collaterals as appropriate.
- Interpret assessment findings and appropriately convey information to parents and school teams.
- Participate with the school team to develop Individualized Education Programs and Section 504 Plans.
- Develop and implement speech and language interventions and treatment strategies and maintain data with fidelity.
- Complete medical billing documentation.
- Evaluate and report on student progress.
- Communicate and consult with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community, and other professionals.
- Serve as a resource to parents, school team, staff and administration on varying disability categories and their effects on student access to an education.
- Participate with improving school accessibility and planning environmental modification.
- Maintain student service, administrative and other departmental records in accordance with professional license, school district procedures and policies, and state and federal regulations.
- Procure, maintain and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies purchased by the district for speech-language related services.
- Maintain a record of regular attendance, arrive and depart at specified contractual times and notify the appropriate personnel when absent.
- Perform required physical tasks such as standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and running.
- Occasionally lift and/or move students or objects.
- Work in a noisy, stressful, high-pressure environment and maintain student safety.
- Respond to emergency situations.
- May be exposed to bodily fluids including saliva, urine, feces, vomit, blood, and/or other bodily fluids.
- Assist with student personal hygiene and toileting as required.
- Complete district approved de-escalation and safety training.
- Ensure confidentiality regarding all personal information and educational records concerning students and their families.
- Maintain professional boundaries with students and families.
- Participate, complete, and adhere to all district-wide mandatory trainings, including but not limited to confidentiality, civil rights, conflict of interest, technology use, and security requirements.
- Continually pursue professional training to keep skills current, participate in in-service training, programs, attend courses, attend department meetings, etc.
- Communicate effectively while performing the job.

- Physical agility and strength to perform job-related tasks appropriate for the age and/or grade level.
