Primary Purpose

The STEM elementary Positive Behavior Supports Liaison uses individual and group problem‑solving techniques to develop positive relationships with children, specifically fostering the collaboration skills necessary for a STEM environment. The liaison promotes personal self‑control, emotional resilience, positive social interaction and conflict resolution to support students during group‑based learning activities. The liaison collaborates with parents, teachers, and staff to help students resolve personal and social problems that interfere with their ability to engage in the inquiry‑based educational process.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work or related field from an accredited college or university.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Experience selecting and implementing methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues.
  • Knowledge of current research, trends, and evidence‑based best practices regarding behavior prevention and intervention.
  • Knowledge of social skills instruction.
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Awareness and ability to access community resources.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Contributes to a culture, climate, and environment that values collaboration.
  • Ability to build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to provide real‑world experiences.
  • Ability to tell the AISD stories of inspiration, success, and opportunities.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of experience in work related fields of social work, education, counseling, or in the community service sector.
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Performance Responsibilities and Duties

  • Select and implement evidence‑based methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in the teaching of social skills, collaboration, and emotional regulation, and teach responsible positive behavior to students with significant behavioral issues.
  • Provide in‑class support for teachers and students.
  • Perform casework service with parents to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems, and their knowledge and use of available and appropriate resources, for the purpose of keeping students in school.
  • Serve as a liaison between student, home, school, and community resources. Access and work closely with community agencies to identify resources for students and their families.
  • Provide crisis intervention and preventive support as needed by students and their families.
  • Make home visits to gather information relating to students.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other school/district personnel to determine the root cause of student problems and effect solutions.
  • Arrange for medical, psychiatric, and other tests and examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures.
  • Assist with truancy prevention efforts by collaborating with the attendance clerk and assistant principal to address chronic absenteeism.
  • Serve as a consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations that are not referred for direct district or outside services.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities.
  • Develop and conduct parenting training and support groups.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
