Position Overview

As a member of Synagro’s Engineering Group, this position focuses on technical project development in support of Synagro’s Business Development Group, with a focus on facility‑based solutions. The role may also provide process engineering support for existing facility‑based projects, guiding project teams, estimating capital costs, and supporting root‑cause analysis and corrective action for facility optimization.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide conceptual engineering design, capital & operating cost estimates, and permitting support during all phases of project development.
  • Lead or support feasibility studies for new or existing services/facilities, including documented cost‑benefit analyses.
  • Act as technical resource for the Business Development Group to support facility growth.
  • Develop and manage implementation and costing of capital improvement projects, with and without external contractors.
  • Monitor assigned projects’ schedules and budgets in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Provide technical and commercial evaluation, recommendations, and guidance to project teams for new development opportunities, mergers & acquisitions, and operational improvements.
  • Conduct technical evaluations in material handling, solution packaging, and technology feasibility.
  • Prepare proposals in response to customer specifications and technical requests for engineering analysis, system studies, and other technical projects.
  • Provide strategic planning input on development opportunities for customer‑driven or Synagro‑initiated projects.
  • Review and provide input on customer contracts during drafting and negotiation.
  • Review third‑party offerings to ensure consistency and validity of opportunities.
  • Assist with start‑up activities for performance testing and acceptance of projects.
  • Provide direct operational support to current facility operations to ensure integration of new technologies.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Mechanical or Chemical).
  • Professional Engineering License highly desired.
  • 10+ years of technical project management of industrial/manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with biosolids or public agency work is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of materials handling, process systems, composting or thermal treatment.
  • Field or operational experience with understanding of procedures and field implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of heat transfer, material handling, and biological kinetics.
  • Proven leadership and team‑building experience.
  • General computer proficiency (Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Salary

Salary Range: $150,000–$190,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
