Position Summary

The Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) is responsible for complying with physician orders as delegated by the licensed Nurse and for providing direct resident care. The GNA establishes and maintains a therapeutic environment for residents. In conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team, the GNA develops and implements individualized care plans with special emphasis on the rehabilitative, physical, and social desires and needs of each resident.

Key

Functions
  • Receives a formal verbal report of the status of residents while making rounds at the beginning of the shift and gives verbal reports while making rounds with GNA replacement at the end of the shift.
  • Charts pertinent information regarding vital signs, input and outputs, and weight as directed by the Charge Nurse.
  • Assists and trains residents with needed personal and grooming/hygiene skills, including bladder training and toileting of residents in need.
  • Learn the habits and assistance required by each resident and respond quickly.
  • Follow all individualized care plans, carrying out all prescribed activities and treatments.
  • Utilize professional staff as resources when questions, concerns, and problems arise.
  • Maintain residents’ rooms and possessions cleanly and neatly, with specific emphasis on the inside of drawers, closets, cabinets, medicine cabinets, and residents’ wheelchairs/recliners or scooters.
  • Maintain a professional manner when in contact with residents, families & friends, staff, and outside agencies.
  • Read all posted information, instructions, etc. Keep informed regarding resident care plans, daily activities, progress, and problems. Maintain a high level of communication between all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in education sessions on a regular basis.
  • Respond appropriately to the fire alarm and in emergency situations, offering support, comfort, and safety to residents.
  • Perform any duties or assignments as requested by the Charge Nurse within his/her skill or training ability.
  • Work in cooperation with other departments to meet resident needs.

Pay Range – $17 – $19 per hour

Qualifications
  • Required

    Education:

    High School or better.
  • Required Experience: 1‑2 years in a long‑term care facility.
  • Required Licenses & Certification: Certified Nurse Assistant, CPR, State registration, and successful completion of a State‑approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program.
  • Required Behaviors: Dedicated, Detail‑Oriented, Enthusiastic, Team Player, Flexibility.
