Position: Nurse Practitioner - School Based Health (35hrs/wk)

What You'll Do

The Nurse Practitioner works independently with collaborative supervision.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessment and management of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  • Implementation and evaluation of a care plan within protocols agreed upon by the Medical Director.
  • Participation in clinical research and application of its results.
  • Multidisciplinary consultation for patient care delivery.
  • Operate within legal scope and nursing standards, CNH Policies and Procedures, and all applicable laws.
  • Supporting the development of RN relationships within the community.
What You'll Need
  • Minimum Education:

    MSN from an approved Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Minimum

    Work Experience:

    0 years; clinical experience with two years in pediatric care (required). 2 years of pediatric care (preferred).
  • Required Licenses and

    Certifications:

    APRN licensure in the state(s) of practice, credentialing from Children’s National Medical staff office, BLS, CPNP or FNP-BC.
Functional Accountabilities Clinical/Practice
  • Assess individual patient status, obtain comprehensive history and examination, developmental assessment.
  • Order appropriate laboratory tests, imaging as indicated.
  • Gather and maintain patient medical records, interpret results, plan interventions.
  • Collaborate with health care team members, clinics and community agencies.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on protocols and patient/family needs.
  • Perform minor procedures when indicated (e.g., ear irrigation, suture removal).
  • Independently prescribe drugs according to guidelines.
  • Provide clinical expertise for patients, families, and team members.
  • Serve as role model for complex patient care issues.
  • Direct management of patient in emergency situations.
  • Enhance professional nursing by participating in professional organizations and committees.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation as needed.
Communication/Consultation
  • Act as consultant in areas of clinical expertise to other health care professionals and the community.
  • Utilize written and verbal means to document and communicate patient status.
  • Manage conflict constructively.
  • Communicate needed system changes effectively.
  • Identify needs for professional growth of staff and communicate them.
Management/Administration
  • Actively participate in development of standards of care.
  • Provide input and feedback to improve quality of care for patients and families.
  • Organize workload and set priorities for short‑ and long‑term goals.
  • Consult with other providers regarding patient care policies.
  • Interpret policy intent in an understandable and non‑biased manner.
Quality Assurance
  • Monitor and document effectiveness of patient care interventions.
  • Participate in quality assurance monitoring with the department or practice.
  • Propose and develop patient care programs to improve delivery of care.
Patient and Family
  • Assess learning needs of patient and family.
  • Implement teaching strategies using appropriate tools and resources.
  • Evaluate patient and family understanding after teaching.
  • Communicate learning needs and responses to other team members.
  • Develop educational materials directed at patients and families.
Research
  • Disseminate information pertaining to research from other professionals.
Professional Education
  • Engage in development of NP role and practice within organization.
  • Participate in NP certification maintenance program.
  • Attend continuing education conferences and lectures.
  • Hold membership in specialty organizations.
  • Develop and present educational programs to hospital and community health professionals.
  • Identify learning needs of staff, develop in‑services and projects to address them.
  • Meet periodically with clinical educators and service directors to assess staff needs.
Safety
  • Speak up when team members exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making.
  • Respond promptly to uncertainty and resolve situations.
