Position: Journeyman Electrician (USHMM)

Job Summary

EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need of a Journeyman Electrician supporting a facility in Washington, DC and a facility in Bowie, MD. The Journeyman Electrician can be located in either Washington, DC or Bowie, MD and will need to travel between the two sites. The Journeyman Electrician troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) on all electrical systems and other building‑related equipment/systems under contract by performing the following duties.

This position requires a Journeyman’s license with both mechanical and electrical aptitudes. This position is covered by the CBA for Local 26.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensures that lighting throughout all buildings is in working order through regular maintenance checks, replacement of defective parts, and repairs as required according to CM/PM policies.
  • Performs the maintenance and repair of electrical switch gear and distribution equipment and other electrical equipment in accordance with specifications.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on all building equipment including (but not limited to) emergency power, lighting controls, mass notification, and fire alarm system. Maintains a current competency for these systems.
  • Remains knowledgeable and proficient with the electrical distribution system for each building. Creates and maintains both single‑line drawings and distribution maps for the electrical system.
  • Accomplishes work in accordance with blueprints and specifications, and national and local codes. Updates as‑built drawings as necessary according to department policies.
  • Maintains records of electrical preventive and corrective maintenance activities as required; performs corrective and preventive maintenance tests as necessary according to department policies.
  • Installs wiring, switches, receptacles, and other electrical devices as assigned, in accordance with national electrical codes.
  • Independently performs electrical systems tasks in all buildings, including lighting and receptacles according to the PM checklist.
  • Repairs and installs electrical devices such as receptacles, light fixtures, light switches, lighting ballast, motors, etc.
  • Installs electrical conduit and related boxes.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) on various electrical devices.
  • Participates in the monthly emergency generator load testing.
  • Follows and implements standard Lock Out Tag Out policies and procedures.
  • Completes work order and PM paperwork in a timely and professional manner. Participates in the computerized maintenance management system for work and equipment documentation.
  • Attends weekly Tool Box safety meetings and demonstrates safety competency.
  • Obtains an OSHA 10 General Industry Safety and Health standards certification as well as the NFPA 70E Arc Flash protection.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a current journeyman electrician license for the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in commercial or government facilities.
  • Must complete the OSHA 10 General Safety and Health training class (supplied by EMCOR).
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license.
  • Can read and understand architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
  • Can understand and implement national electrical codes, life safety codes and fully comply with NFPA 70E Arc Flash Protection.
  • Can read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Can read and understand manufacturer’s submittals and literature.
  • Can specify, locate and order material and replacement parts.
  • Ability to work extended hours or weekend overtime as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to travel between Washington, DC and Bowie, MD to support both sites.
