The MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician III within the Office of Fleet Maintenance at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).

Responsibilities

Performing preventive maintenance inspections.
Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing major malfunctions on motor vehicles and motor equipment.
Performing standard preventive maintenance services such as changing oil, fueling, cleaning, or greasing parts.
Assisting in snow removal procedures on airport runways and taxiways.
Road‑testing vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and reliability.

This position is an emergency essential position. All employees designated as emergency essential are required to be available to work during weather, operational, and/or disaster emergency conditions. Furthermore, this position requires work in a 24‑hour facility, and you must be available to work any shift as required by the operational needs of the MAA.

This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.

Education

Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.

Experience

Four years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy‑duty construction equipment. Two years of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy‑duty construction equipment and diesel engines.

Certification and Licensing

Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one‑half years of the general experience. The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education and experience.

Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience Minimum Qualifications.)

Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.

Employees are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees must possess and maintain a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Employees are required to possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated.

Employees in this class may be required to obtain Special Commercial Driver's License Endorsements for Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles depending on the type of equipment operated.
