Job Description

Math tutors will consult with WKU students on current mathematics assignments and preparing for tests. Tutors should be able to tutor for Math 116, 205, 206, and/or 308.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Consult with students about their math projects and assignments.
  • Diagnose strengths, weaknesses, and the appropriateness of the work to the assignment goals.
  • Ask students questions to determine what they understand about their math assignments and the goals of the project to offer helpful and meaningful guidance.
  • Fill out tutoring session reports and assist with related record-keeping tasks.
  • Complete initial and ongoing training requirements to improve tutoring abilities.
  • Attend regular staff meetings as required.
  • Assist with development of tutoring resources or publicity materials as needed.

Requirements
  • Full-time or part-time WKU student in good standing.
  • Must be a strong math student (an A or B final grade in Math 116, 205, 206 and/or 308 is required).
  • Strong communication ability and academic knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at the college level.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including careful listening.
