East Central Ohio Educational Service Center – Student Wellness
The ECOESC is seeking a school‑based Prevention Specialist to work in targeted Belmont County Schools. This position is full time during the school year between mid‑August and early June.
General DescriptionThis position is responsible for providing mental health promotion and substance abuse prevention and early intervention services to students and families attending targeted school districts within Belmont County.
SpecificJob Duties / Responsibilities Include
- Coordinate, develop and implement mental health promotion and substance abuse prevention programs for youth
- Provide early intervention / student support services to students and their families designed to meet the non‑academic barriers that interfere with the student’s success in school
- Refer students and families to school based and/or community resources as needed
- Participate in community‑based process activities (Agency liaison, serve on various community and state committees, task forces, coalitions, etc.)
- Attend required workshops and trainings to improve professional skills and to obtain or maintain state prevention certification
- Provide teacher in‑service / professional development programs as needed
- State, Federal and Local laws relative to agency’s programs
- The agency’s vision, mission and purpose
- The dynamics of human behavior, psychosocial issues, family development, learning theory, theory of change and group dynamics
- Methods, strategies and techniques of substance abuse prevention and mental health promotion
- Cultural competency issues, particularly in regard to risk and protective factors for substance abuse and mental illness
- Community resources and how to access the resources
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social work, community health, sociology, psychology or related human services field
- Must currently be certified as a Prevention Specialist or willing to begin the process of prevention certification following the guidelines determined by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board upon hire
- Must be drug‑free and adhere to the Program’s Drug‑free Workplace policy
- Must undergo FBI and BCI background check; employment is contingent upon a criminal‑free background check
Job Type: Full‑time mid August through early June
Salary: $32,000.00 to $40,000.00 /year
