American Conservation Experience, a non‑profit Conservation Corps in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE Environmental Education Member to contribute to the Mammoth Cave National Park Environmental Education summer camp and teacher workshop project alongside NPS staff.

Mammoth Cave National Park – Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. The park was established as a national park in 1941, later designated a World Heritage Site in 1981 and an International Biosphere Reserve in 1990. In 2021 it was certified a Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association. The park covers 52,830 acres of reclaimed hardwood forest and winding riverways, plus the world’s longest known cave system, surveyed at 412 miles to date.
It offers camping, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, canoeing, picnicking, and cave tours. Nearby attractions include the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.
The primary purpose of the environmental education office is to provide students with an understanding of the park and its resources and to foster stewardship for the NPS and Mammoth Cave National Park. The service member will work with students from across the local area and assist park rangers with week‑long summer day camps. Most work will be outside in the park or inside the cave, immersing students and teachers in the resource.
- Two weeks of training for cave tours and trails, plus on‑the‑job training for educational activities.
- Lead cave tours for students and teachers.

- Assist with educational activities during summer camps and teacher workshops.
- Attend off‑site programs and assist in providing educational activities to students in the local area at schools and library events.
This placement facilitates professional development, exposure to land‑management agencies, and networking with professionals. It can include experience in different conservation fields and shadowing various work groups.
ScheduleAfter an initial two‑week training period, the anticipated schedule will be Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am‑4:00 pm. Tuesday‑Saturday hours may vary during training.
Position BenefitsLiving Allowance: $600 per week to offset food and incidental expenses, paid bi‑weekly.
Housing: Provided at no cost for the duration of the term if the intern’s home address is more than 50 miles from the park.
Travel Allowance: Reimbursed up to $650 for eligible travel expenses. Prior approval from the site is required before reimbursement.
Training / Orientation: Position‑specific training and an orientation covering ACE policies, prohibited activities, and support networks. Training may include safety, CPR/First Aid, environmental education curriculum, and cave tour route training.
Qualifications Required- Authorized to work in the United States (sponsorship not provided).
- W able to represent ACE and the partner organization professionally, positively, and enthusiastically.
- Self‑directed and able to work alone, yet a positive, contributing team member.
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record; must be 21+ to drive due to insurance requirements.
- Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Completion of bi‑weekly timesheets, beginning‑of‑term feedback forms, end‑of‑term evaluations, and, for longer terms, a mid‑term evaluation.

- Hold or be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in education, environmental education, history, or natural sciences.
- Experience working with children in an educational or camp‑like setting.
- Willingness to work outside and/or in a cave environment—hiking up to four miles per day outdoors or in cave, working with students of various backgrounds and ages.
