Job DescriptionFor the School Year
Qualifications:
Kentucky teaching certificate (Master’s Degree preferred). Three years experience and other qualifications as specified by the Superintendent and/or Board of Education.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Ensure day-to-day school operations reflect culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and student-centered practices.
- Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and families to foster a strong, positive school culture characterized by respect, responsibility, collaboration, and hard work.
- Establish and sustain a safe, highly effective, and well-organized educational environment that emphasizes teamwork in learning and problem-solving to prepare young adults to become the next generation of citizens and leaders.
- Utilize best practices to support newcomers in acquiring English language proficiency.
- Effectively address and resolve challenging situations involving students, parents, and staff.
- Demonstrate a willingness to engage in frequent and honest dialogue regarding job performance.
- Use data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership in student management, including attendance, discipline, and supervision outside the classroom.
- Teach an elective or academic course as needed.
- Oversee the implementation of the instructional program to ensure all students have access to rigorous and relevant learning experiences.
- Supervise, coach, and support faculty and staff in implementing effective instructional and professional practices.
- Regularly monitor classroom instruction, conduct observations, and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.
- Coordinate high-quality, ongoing professional learning to support student achievement and improve instructional practice.
- Manage curriculum, class schedules, assessments, graduation requirements, and all other aspects of the newcomer academic program.
- Organize and participate in school showcases, events, and activities conducted during and outside the school day.
- Implement district discipline policies and uphold exceptionally high standards of student behavior.
- Supervise school support systems, including academic intervention, after-school tutoring, dual enrollment, college and career counseling, and student physical and mental wellness services.
- Oversee school safety for students and staff, including building security, emergency procedures, and transportation regulations.
- Promote a healthy student culture aligned with BGISD’s goals and mission through athletics, arts, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Organize and facilitate school wide gatherings, including assemblies, pep rallies, and performances.
- Communicate student progress to school and district leaders and families in a timely and constructive manner.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships within the school, community, and profession to support student learning and well-being.
- Adhere to the professional Code of Ethics adopted by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
- Administer health services to students as necessary, including but not limited to administering medication; operating, maintaining, or providing health care through medical equipment; and performing clinical procedures as appropriate.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Serve as a positive public relations representative for school and district programs and activities.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding individual students and their families.
- Implement and comply with all rules, regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives adopted by the Board of Education.
- Maintain acceptable attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional Programs, district administrative staff, or Superintendent.
