Position Overview
Easterseals Southern California transforms lives every day by delivering essential services such as early childhood programs, autism services, and independent living support to over 29,000 people annually. This role supports the Early Head Start/Head Start program as an educator and site supervisor, working under limited supervision to plan, implement, and evaluate an inclusive curriculum for young children.
CompensationHiring bonus: $2,000 (without Infant and Toddler Units) or $2,500 (with relevant units). Salary ranges based on education and experience:
Associate Teachers Permit + BA: $26–$29/hr;
Permit + AA: $24–$27/hr;
Permit + HS diploma: $22–$25/hr candidates with relevant Infant and Toddler units qualify for additional compensation.
- Act as classroom educator for assigned children throughout program enrollment.
- Support primary caregiving tasks, ensuring child safety and supervision.
- Plan, implement, and supervise a developmentally appropriate and inclusive curriculum in accordance with Head Start standards and Easterseals policies.
- Conduct home visits and parent conferences within required timelines.
- Develop and maintain individual child goals with parent input, and keep weekly lesson plans, progress records, and required paperwork.
- Complete child screenings and assessments within designated time frames.
- Coordinate and conduct bi‑monthly classroom unit meetings.
- Provide input on evaluation of volunteers and college interns.
- Participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, in‑service training, and associate/parent training activities.
- Coordinate parent education, training, and support for pregnant women, including prenatal education and breast‑feeding information.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- B.A. in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.
- Current Child Development Teacher Permit.
- Experience teaching in a preschool or infant/toddler classroom, with at least 350 days of 3+ hours per day over a 4‑year period.
- Current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and first aid certificate and food handler’s certificate.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Skype).
- Knowledge of infant and toddler development and safety issues, such as reducing SIDS risk.
- Completion of California‐mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training and Pesticide Safety Training (Healthy Schools Act) before commencing work.
- Ability to interpret and implement regulations from the California Department of Education, Title 5 funding terms, Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing (Title 22), Head Start standards, and Easterseals policies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with diverse individuals and groups.
- Sound judgment, planning, and timeline‑management skills.
- Pass a post‑offer physical examination, TB test, and maintain required immunizations as per California state regulations.
- Secure criminal record/fingerprint clearance and sex‑offender index clearance per Easterseals Southern California and program requirements.
- Occasional lifting of 0–30 lbs.; standing and walking up to 3 hours per day; sitting up to 8 hours per day.
- Tasks that may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
- Visual acuity sufficient to view a computer monitor and read printed material.
