Building Principal / Director of Special Education

Current CT certification in School Psychology (070). Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred).

$140.00 per day for days 1‑40 and $295.35 per day starting at day 41. Full‑time position. Benefits provided in the current East Haven Education Association contract.

• Understands special education and Section 504 laws and procedures as well as the PPT process.
• Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with students, families, and community professionals.
• Collaborates with staff to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop Behavior Intervention Plans, collecting and analyzing data to determine effectiveness.
• Evalues behavior through clinical observations, interviews, records review, and test results.
• Analyzes psycho‑educational strengths and needs of individual students.
• Provides educational, vocational, and personal recommendations based on evaluations.
• Conducts individual and small‑group counseling sessions.
• Interprets findings to teachers to assist in effectively supporting students.
• Advises and counsels parents to facilitate educational progress.
• Plans and implements non‑biased assessment practices.
• Develops and implements appropriate counseling goals based on student needs.

• Processes referrals from school personnel, community agencies, families, and students.
• Refers students to the PPT when problems significantly interfere with school performance.
• Coordinates Planning and Placement Team meetings with the school team.
• Ensures compliance with laws, procedures, and requirements related to the PPT process.
• Facilitates the development of individualized educational programs.
• Consults with staff to improve classroom environments for individual and group needs.
• Recommends strategies, techniques, and materials to enhance instructional improvement.
• Identifies and assesses the social and emotional needs of students to enhance the learning environment.
• Develops short‑term counseling plans for referred students.
• Aids in identifying at‑risk students and participating in treatment strategy development.
• Maintains appropriate records of service provision.
• Serves on Early Intervention, Crisis, and Student Assistance Teams as required.
• Utilizes technology to support job responsibilities and meet school and district goals.
