Position: Migrant Advocate (Student Support Services): 2026-2027

MIGRANT ADVOCATE

Salary Table: 155 Days: 220 Pay Range: $23.16 - $30.15

Hours:

7.5 per day

WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The goal of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor's degree, required
2. Migrant experience or experience working with multi-cultural clientele, preferred
3. Thorough knowledge of the geographic area 4. Has met the requirements for a criminal record check as specified by Kentucky State Law. 5. Has met health requirements as specified

REPORTS TO

Migrant Coordinator

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE REQUIRED

Knowledge of: 1. Federal regulations pertaining to the migrant education program (MEP) 2. Oral and written communication skills
3. Public speaking techniques
4. Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities
5. Applicable sections of the Kentucky Administrative Regulations and other applicable laws

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to: 1. Prepare and deliver oral presentations
2. Establish and maintain cooperative an effective working relationships with others
3. Maintain routine records
4. Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements an restrictions
5. Relate to cross-section of people on a professional and personal basis
6. Work irregular hours when necessary
7. Provide own transportation

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the teacher, maintain records of student progress.
2. Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
3. Assist in the supervision of students.
4. Meet and maintain contact with a child's classroom teachers(s) to determine levels of academic proficiency and how the migrant program can assist the child to achieve.
5. Periodically meet with students to see if they are performing well academically and adjusting to teachers, peers, and school.
6. Resolve issues that arise, either directly, or through referral and follow up with other school and community resources.
7. Monitor grades, academic achievement, attendance and behavior.
8. Make home visits to: meet with parents/guardians; assess the home environment; determine needs of other children who may reside in the home; and seek the involvement of parents/guardians in the child's education through modeling, coaching, and placement of educational or training materials in the home.
9. Make other home visits and/or parent contacts as needs or requests by others might indicate. 10.Maintain a log of activities to document services provided for migrant children and families 11.Continually seek and participate in appropriate professional development and training opportunities to enhance existing skills and to learn new skills for the job. 12.Make use of all other school and community resources for health, social, and other identified needs through appropriate referral and follow-up.

13.Compile and maintain data for completing a needs assessment of the program and for reports needed by the records clerk, district supervisor, and regional program coordinator. 14.Maintain student control at Migrant sponsored events. 15.Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations. 16.Inform teacher/principal/coordinator on matters of concern. 17.Participate in meetings and training programs as assigned.

18.Complete all required training and attend professional development sessions as requested. 19.Complete appropriate documentation both electronically and in written form. 20.Perform assigned tasks in a timely manner  clean, neat and appropriately dressed  consistently responsible and display an attitude of honesty and credibility. Show enthusiasm, interest and concern for the total program and its efficient operation.

23.Demonstrate positive behavior toward the purposes and goals of Warren County Public Schools. 24.Perform other related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year shall be established by the Board of Education. Salary and supplement schedule will be as per the District's Salary Schedule
