Position Overview
The Surveyor Manager in Construction will manage field survey crews and coordinate between active Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), private construction projects, upcoming design-phase projects, and other City Departments with field survey work.
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Responsibilities- Direct activities of the Division’s surveying and mapping unit in field surveying, mapping, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), utility relocation, and City property rights acquisition issues.
- Direct acquisition and/or disposition of City property and/or right-of-ways.
- Prepare data for Capitol Improvement Projects (CIP) and operating budgets.
- Confere with superiors, contractors, developers, and property owners regarding surveying, mapping, GIS, utility relocation, and City right-of-way issues.
- Coordinate the preparation and review of construction plans and reports for surveying, mapping, utility, and right-of-way issues.
- Coordinate research of survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records required for property surveys.
- Initiate correspondence; prepare technical reports; maintain comprehensive files on surveying, mapping, GIS, utility, and right-of-way issues; maintain files of maps, record plats, and annexations.
- Represent the Division in special projects and in meetings with state, county, and municipal organizations, consulting engineering groups, contractors, and area civic associations.
- Provide instruction to professional and sub‑professional surveying, utility coordination, and mapping personnel.
- Stay abreast of current surveying, mapping, GIS, and right-of-way principles and procedures.
- Coordinate work of the surveying and mapping unit with engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others involved in projects.
- Supervise and train personnel engaged in surveying and mapping activities, approving or disapproving leave requests, conducting performance evaluations, and/or initiating disciplinary actions.
- Attend professional surveying seminars, staff meetings, and policy planning sessions.
- Possession of a valid State of Ohio certificate as a Professional Surveyor and three (3) years of experience supervising personnel engaged in surveying activities.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
