Position Overview

Radiological Control Technician, Senior

Job Code: RADCON
08. Grade Level: 05 (Non‑Exempt/USW).

  • Provide assigned technical, administrative, or functional support to the Radiation Protection management team.
  • Participate in planning of radiological work, monitoring of radiological work areas, generation of radiological work permits, establishing radiological work controls, and monitoring radiological workers.
  • Perform quantitative measurements and document results for radioactive material shipments, free release of excess material and waste from the site.
  • Support ES&H activities in the field, including atmospheric monitoring, safety evaluations, self‑assessments, and chemical hygiene control programs.
  • Recommend corrective measures to reduce contamination levels when excessive contamination is detected.
  • Maintain proficiency in a wide variety of radiation protection and associated ES&H support activities.
  • Mentor less experienced technicians.
  • Perform a variety of tasks complex in nature related to radiological, industrial, and chemical safety.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain knowledge of and demonstrate ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Actively participate in Safety Work Groups.
Radiological Control Lead

07. Grade Level: 06 (Non‑Exempt/USW).

  • Provide technical oversight of radiological work in the field.
  • Assist junior and senior technicians with assigned job functions.
  • Assist in radiological work planning and participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) development and review.
  • Review and provide field verification of Radiation Protection Program field procedures.
  • Respond to radioactive spills and contaminated personnel.
  • Generate reports for management.
  • Ensure proficiency in a wide variety of Radiological Control support tasks.
  • Provide training to and mentor junior and senior technicians.
  • Perform quality assessments of daily instrument function checks, radiological monitoring survey documents, waste and material shipping documents, and other associated surveillance.
  • Ensure control over radiological protection quality records and transmittal to Records Management/Document Control.
  • Support ES&H field support groups, including industrial and chemical safety.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain knowledge of and demonstrate ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Actively participate in Safety Work Groups.
Working Conditions

Work in an environmental restoration atmosphere involving outdated and/or abandoned facilities. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals, solvents, or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.

Ability to wear respirator, protective equipment, and enter various types of potentially hazardous areas, including chemical, dust fumes, mists, heat stress factors, etc.

Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively. Potential prolonged walking/standing, repeated pushing/pulling. Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, with a two‑person “buddy system” for lifts > 45 pounds, and more than 20 pounds constantly, repetitive.

Potential for prolonged driving or riding in a motor vehicle, machine operation, or working around moving equipment/machinery.

Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise, and areas with radiation and chemical hazards. Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes and inclement weather such as wind, rain, excessive heat or cold, snow/ice.

In some cases radiological training may be required. May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times. All requirements are subject to modification to reasonably accommodate…
