Performs the full range of duties and tasks of field technical support of telecommunication work to design, maintain, and operate telecommunication systems and facilities for the protection, control, operation, and maintenance of the TVA power system. Systems and facilities may include microwave, land and satellite data, paging and mobile radio, fiber optics, SCADA, EMS, telephony, power line carrier, local area networks, wide area networks, and digital transmission systems.
The incumbent is responsible for the performance of progressively more challenging duties in design development, layout and wiring, installation, operations, maintenance, rehabilitation and testing of communication and electrical equipment and systems. May assist in the duties of analyzing system needs, validating user requirements, selecting most appropriate system/equipment, and system configuration and integration. Carries out duties in a manner that assures that engineering design and maintenance costs and schedule performance goals are met.

May assist with engineering studies or parts of engineering studies to evaluate the effects of modifications, deterioration, deletions, and additions to telecommunication systems and equipment. May assist in the resolution of initial installation testing and operation and maintenance problems for equipment and system. May perform the more routine design development and maintenance functions including calculations, checking drawings, selecting, specifying, troubleshooting, repairing, programming and testing equipment.
May assist the lead technician on projects. As assigned, duties include utilizing computer aided design equipment to perform design, drafting, and engineering calculations, assisting in the resolution of minor installation problems, checking equipment installation, checking drawings, turn‑up testing, identifying and reporting project discrepancies, marking and submitting as‑built prints or print corrections and reporting lessons learned. When assigned to a Nuclear Plant, must be able to obtain and maintain an unescorted plant access certification.
