Licensed by the state board of occupational therapy and a valid Georgia driver’s license required.

Education Requirements

Graduate of an accredited college or university with a minimum bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy.

Experience

One year of pediatric and/or school-based therapy experience preferred.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assess student need for occupational therapy and related services, including eligibility and evaluation for special education programs.
    • Conduct assessments using standardized tests, histories, checklists, records audits, interviews.
    • Use classroom observations for students ages 3-21.
    • Present evaluation results to IEP committee.
    • Respond to referrals from SST, special educators, parents.
    • Assist with 504 plans per ADA.
  • Develop programs and plans to promote student participation.
    • Provide consultative treatment and in‑home programs supporting IEP objectives.
    • Assist in developing IEPs as IEP committee member.
    • Develop strategies for adaptive equipment, materials, mobility aids.
    • Construct custom materials and equipment.
    • Support students and staff in compliance with IDEA.
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities.
    • Provide in‑service training for staff, parents, and groups.
    • Support staff on child development, behavior, disabilities, feeding techniques, positioning, sensory, handwriting, and visual strategies.
    • Train stakeholders in maintaining therapy plans.
    • Attend continuing education seminars to maintain Georgia license and knowledge.
  • Identify educationally relevant needs and ensure consistency.
    • Complete formal reports on evaluation and therapy plans.
    • Communicate with parents and professionals.
    • Maintain rosters and documentation for student therapy services.
    • Obtain physician referrals and attend meetings (IEP, SST, 504, due process).
    • Ensure compliance with IDEA, ADA, and AOTA best practices.
  • Provide occupational therapy treatment to students.
    • Deliver ongoing treatment per IEP objectives.
    • Consult with teachers.
    • Provide short‑term interventions for changes in performance or environment.
    • Deliver 504 plan interventions.
    • Assist students in benefiting from educational programs per IDEA/ADA-504.
  • Assist with litigation issues as requested.
    • Present documentation for mediations/hearings.
    • Attend due process meetings.
    • Follow due process procedures.
  • Promote safety throughout environment.
    • Identify access barriers.
    • Assist with evacuation plan development.
    • Assist transportation department with safe transport for students with wheelchair or behavioral concerns.
  • Act as clinical supervising instructor for occupational therapy students. Preference for Georgia universities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Physical Demands

    Frequently required to sit; required to talk, hear, stand, walk. Use hands for handling. May stoop, kneel, crouch; lift up to 25 pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, depth perception, focus. Reasonable accommodations available.
