Position Summary

The Assistant Director of System Engineering for the College of Engineering will oversee various core systems, act as primary storage administrator, and support the College’s IT operations across six locations. Key duties include building and deploying Linux workstations for faculty and students, installing software, maintaining system images, supervising 2–3 OIT staff, managing ticket queues, conducting weekly team meetings, and leading special technology projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Core Systems Engineering Administration – serve as secondary Citrix Provisioning Services, Citrix Net Scaler, and Virtual Applications & Desktop Administrator; serve as secondary Network Administrator; serve as primary Core Linux and Windows Server Administrator; serve as primary Storage Administrator.
  • Research Linux Systems Administration – build and deploy research Linux computers; ensure security compliance; install and update software; maintain Linux system images for client deployment.
  • Supervisory Duties – manage the System Engineering Services Request Tracker IT queues, conduct weekly team meetings, oversee quality and completion of tasks, recruit, hire, train, and retain system engineering staff.
  • Client Services – prioritize requests, provide technical assistance to users in person or remotely, manage and resolve Tier 3 support requests.
  • Special Projects – lead technology projects assigned by the Senior Director of OIT for the College of Engineering.
  • Other Duties – support OIT operations, attend CENGR staff meetings, complete university‑assigned employee trainings.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge and experience in core/system engineering services.
  • Experience in supervising others.
  • Strong technical skills in Apple Macintosh, Red Hat & Ubuntu Linux, Windows desktop operating systems, scripting, Microsoft Intune, networking, SAN storage, and SQL/MySQL databases.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing and engineering applications.
