Senior​/Lead Data Analyst – Strategy & Business Development

• Support the Central Support & Predictive Intelligence team within Marathon Petroleum’s Strategy & Business Development organization

• Partner with SBD teams and other business units to deliver decision-grade insights for strategic decisions

• Learn assigned business-segment operations, strategies, and competitive dynamics

• Collect, research, validate, analyze, and synthesize intelligence from multiple sources

• Monitor market, competitive, and regulatory developments to identify risks and opportunities

• Analyze financial, operational, and industry data and recommend actions

• Prepare reports, briefings, and presentations for business and executive audiences

• Support M&A, divestiture, and special initiatives, including coordinating and managing virtual data rooms

• Contribute to cross-functional SBD projects

• Use AI tools, automation, and analytical methods to extract insights from large, complex, and unstructured datasets

• Build and maintain automated workflows using tools such as agentic AI, Power Automate, Copilot, Python, and SQL

• Develop and maintain dashboards and visualizations

• Identify and pilot applications of AI and advanced analytics

• Contribute to recurring SBD processes including budget coordination, subscription and vendor management, and regulatory monitoring

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Preferred fields include Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related analytical discipline
• 6+ years of experience in an analytical, strategic, commercial, or technical role
• Experience ideally in Refining, Midstream, Commercial, Finance, Strategy & Business Development, or IT
• Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to synthesize and summarize information from multiple sources
• Critical thinking and structured problem‑solving skills, including with incomplete or ambiguous information
• Demonstrated data fluency, including acquiring, manipulating, and analyzing data
• Ability to use AI to extract insights from data
• Hands‑on experience applying AI‑powered tools to real analytical problems
• Strong judgment about where and how to use AI tools
• Experience with workflow automation, data visualization, scripting, or query languages
• Knowledge of or strong interest in market data and outlooks, competitive landscape and financial metrics, Refinery Value Chains, or Natural Gas and NGL value chains

Demonstrates expertise in data analysis, financial modeling, and strategic insights generation, utilizing AI tools and automation to enhance decision‑making processes. Proficient in synthesizing complex information and delivering actionable recommendations to executive audiences.
