Job Description

Position Summary

3rd Shift 10:30 PM Sunday – 6:30 AM Friday

The CMM Technician participates in quality improvement teams to identify and solve quality problems, conducts audits of internal and external components and assemblies, identifies discrepancies, and provides feedback/escalation as required. Serves as a technical resource and is responsible for measurement and evaluation of parts, components, and assemblies using various gauges and equipment. Assists in follow‑up for corrective actions when non‑conformities are identified and supports manufacturing activities through auditing/monitoring of processes.

Duties
  • Inspect products using CMM and other gauges/equipment.
  • Perform dimensional layouts for all OEM and Bendix internal requirements, including new launches, engineering changes, annual validations, and troubleshooting problems.
  • Devise methods to measure part dimensions and program CMM, while validating the corresponding CAD models and blueprints.
  • Create dimensional reports and review them with Quality/Engineering and customers where defined.
  • Coordinate metrology studies per AIAG MSA guidelines.
  • Ensure all gauges and test equipment are maintained and in good working order. Support managing the calibration system while maintaining current inspection fixture calibration status and annual product dimensional validations.
  • Follow written and/or verbal instructions from supervisors.
  • Interact with team members, leads, supervisors, and managers as needed.
  • Test incoming materials before release to production.
  • Correct errors in own work.
  • Perform record‑keeping duties.
  • Perform minor maintenance of quality lab equipment, keep machines and tools clean and properly operating.
  • Support Plant 5S goals by ensuring the assigned area meets 5S targets.
  • Report recognized defective material and equipment to supervisor.
  • Follow all aspects of Standardized Work Instructions.
  • Understand and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies (ISO
    14001).
  • Understand current quality policies and procedures (IATF 16949).
  • Serve as the primary contact for the metrology lab.
  • Verify and support gauge calibration.
  • Support scrap review activities for assigned areas.
  • Be able to adjust work schedule to support coverage as required.
  • Perform other assigned tasks/duties by supervisor/manager.
  • Qualifications
    • Completion of high school diploma or GED; associate degree in a technical field is highly preferred.
    • Minimum 2 years of general CMM experience within automotive/manufacturing field.
    • Experience with reading blueprints, using calipers, micrometers, torque testers, go/no‑go gauges, etc.
    • Basic CMM programming experience is required.
    • At least 2 years of quality technician experience in a manufacturing assembly operation is highly preferred.
    • At least 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
    • Practical knowledge and ability to apply problem‑solving and basic statistical analysis; train and reinforce manufacturing associate skills in drawings, GD&T, shop math, and SPC.
    • Metrology experience is strongly preferred.
    • Basic GD&T principles are required.
    • Experience using different types of gauges and understanding calibration requirements is required.
    • Basic blueprint reading skills are required.
    • Strong organization skills are required.
    • Strong math skills are required.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
