Job Description
The CNC Mill Machinist sets up, programs, and operates CNC milling equipment in a job shop environment to produce precision molds and components, primarily from plastic materials. This role requires strong expertise in Mastercam programming, G&M codes, and close-tolerance machining on multi-axis mills.
Responsibilities
- Perform between one and four CNC mill set-ups per shift, including preparing fixtures, tooling, and material.
- Program CNC mills using Mastercam to create and modify toolpaths for complex parts and molds.
- Work with G&M codes to adjust, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC programs at the machine control.
- Machine parts to tight tolerances, consistently holding dimensions within ±0.001 inch.
- Operate a 5-axis CNC mill to produce intricate geometries and high-precision components.
- Work primarily with plastics to create molds and other precision parts according to engineering specifications.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to ensure accurate part production.
- Perform own set-ups, including selecting appropriate tooling, setting offsets, and verifying machine readiness.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to inspect and verify part quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized machine shop work area and follow standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve machining issues and improve processes in a job shop environment.
- Monitor machine performance during operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Document work as required, including recording measurements, completing job travelers, and updating production records.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 5 years of CNC mill machining experience in a production or job shop environment.
- Proficiency in programming CNC mills using Mastercam.
- Demonstrated experience performing own CNC mill set-ups independently.
- Ability to operate and set up 5-axis CNC mills.
- Strong understanding of G&M codes and their application in CNC machining.
- Ability to consistently machine parts to tolerances within ±0.001 inch.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Experience working in a machine shop or job shop setting.
- Solid knowledge of general milling and machining practices.
- Ability to work safely and follow established procedures in a manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience machining plastics and creating plastic molds is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Haas CNC machines is beneficial.
- Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining and programming issues.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise components.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a shop team.
- Good organizational skills to manage multiple set-ups and jobs in a job shop environment.

Work Environment
The role is based in a non-climate-controlled machine shop environment working with CNC mills and related equipment. There is one opening on first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and one opening on third shift from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday. The position is a direct placement opportunity in a busy job shop setting that focuses on plastic molds and precision machining, requiring comfort with typical shop conditions such as noise and varying temperatures.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $83200.00/yr.
