KCPC Psychiatric Charge Nurse

Position Overview

Psychiatric Registered Charge Nurse who will practice psychiatric-mental health nursing and provide first line supervision to patient care staff. Performs general nursing tasks for the holistic care and treatment of patients’ medical and psychiatric needs. Coordinates hospital functions and nursing services including scheduling, job assignments, responding to call-ins, assuring appropriate staff levels. Ensures quality of care on patient units and the smooth operation of the department’s functions.

• Practice psychiatric-mental health nursing.
• Provide first line supervision to patient care staff.
• Perform general nursing tasks for holistic care and treatment of patients’ medical and psychiatric needs.
• Coordinate hospital functions and nursing services including scheduling, job assignments, responding to call-ins, assuring appropriate staff levels.
• Ensure quality of care on patient units and the smooth operation of the department’s functions.
• Manage specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained through education and experience in caring for persons with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders.
• Participate in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementing, coordination of care, health teaching and health promotion of a unique patient population.
• Provide counseling (individual and group) and safety management of the therapeutic milieu in a secure forensic facility.
• Deliver counseling interventions including communication and interviewing techniques, problem‑solving activities, crisis intervention, stress management, supportive skill building, educational groups, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training and conflict resolution.
• Engage in and promote mission‑driven leadership focused on patient care and quality improvement.
• Follow and enforce facility policies and procedures.
• Adhere to and enforce time and attendance policies including mandatory overtime, recall to duty, irregular day/shift rotation and other coverage requirements.
