Summary
The QA/QC Manager assists in the direction of all site quality assurance and quality control activities serving as a technical specialist in one or more areas. The role involves defining inspection processes, certifying co‑workers who perform inspections, managing the inspection staff, and ensuring compliance with owner or regulatory requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities- Assign and supervise QC Level I, II, or III inspectors and inspection staff as needed.
- Oversee the creation, assembly, and maintenance of quality assurance documentation specific to each project.
- Review records for legibility, completeness, traceability, and conformance to specified acceptance standards.
- Define inspection processes and certify co‑workers who perform inspections.
- Develop and implement company/project QA/QC programs, including manuals, standards, procedures, and training programs.
- Direct qualified inspection and test personnel to perform quality‑related activities.
- Review and approve test controls and test results, and perform vendor inspections and witness tests as required.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and surveillance to ensure company‑wide compliance with quality and safety programs; identify violations and institute corrective measures.
- Verify that received items conform to contract acceptance criteria.
- Document and facilitate corrections of non‑conformances.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to direct reports to maximize departmental performance.
- Hold timely performance appraisals and progress reviews.
- Assist direct reports in developing short‑ and long‑term goals aligned with the department and company mission.
- Ensure staff receive appropriate training aligned with career development plans.
- Conduct department staff meetings and contribute to the development of initiatives, goals, objectives, systems, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure compliance with employment laws, labor laws, and company policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or construction‑related discipline and six years of related experience or equivalent.
- Knowledge of construction practices (e.g., formwork, rebar, concrete placing).
- Quality assurance experience, preferably in the nuclear power industry (DOE/DOD facilities).
- Quality inspector experience.
- Familiarity with applicable quality codes, standards, and preferably NRC regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency with SharePoint/File Net and Bluebeam software.
- Read, analyze, and interpret business documents, technical procedures, and codes.
- Write clear reports, correspondence, and procedures.
- Present information effectively to managers, clients, and the public.
- Understand, customize, and modify spreadsheets.
- Good listening skills.
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, trigonometry, and interpolation to practical situations.
- Direct work and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of co‑workers.
- Work in a team environment.
- Assertive and persuasive communication.
- Define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
