Postdoctoral Associate 2 – Joyner Position Summary
This position is grant‑funded. Continuation of employment is probable but not guaranteed. The post‑doctoral position will work in the Joyner lab to understand the biology of relapsing malaria parasites with the long‑term goal of developing new therapies and identifying therapeutic targets. The individual will oversee the day‑to‑day management of projects, assist in analysis and interpretation of study data, prepare grants and associated reports, and write manuscripts for publication.
The candidate will also train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and other members of the laboratory as directed by the PI.
- Plan, execute, and perform experimental studies and data analysis (40%)
- Mentor and train undergraduate, graduate, post‑doctoral fellows, and laboratory staff (30%)
- Publish, report, grant, and presentation preparation (30%)
- PhD or equivalent and experience in related fields.
- Experience with culture and isolation of malaria parasites, genetic manipulation of malaria parasites, next‑generation sequencing analysis of parasite genomes using long and short‑read sequencing approaches, liver‑stage culture with relapsing malaria parasites, and basic laboratory skills including PCR and cloning.
- Learn and design new experimental approaches and procedures.
- Solve technical problems efficiently and independently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment; ability to train others effectively and efficiently in the laboratory.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a fully productive, cooperative team member.
Frequent movement between facilities, occasionally operating heavy equipment, lift more than 40 pounds, standing long periods of time.
