The Gross Lab at the University of Cincinnati is seeking to hire a full‑time Research Technician to study the response of organisms to environmental pressures using the Mexican tetra (Astyanax mexicanus). Primary responsibilities include wet‑lab research activities (40%), training other lab members in experimental tasks (30%), and animal husbandry and lab maintenance (30%). The position requires 40 hours/week, a 6‑month probationary period followed by a one‑year extension based on performance, and is renewable pending funding.
EssentialFunctions
The successful candidate will facilitate research for a National Science Foundation–funded project on craniofacial and sensory evolution. Responsibilities include performing experimentation, training graduate and undergraduate students, maintaining the live animal colony, and general lab housekeeping.
Minimum RequirementsIdeally, the candidate will have fish husbandry experience, routine molecular techniques (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, cloning, PCR amplification), and basic bioinformatic analyses. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organization, and communication skills.
Required Education- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or specialized training can substitute the education requirement.
Additional related work experience may be required depending on the specific field or discipline.
Additional Qualifications Considered- Over 6 months of live animal care experience.
- Prior experience with fluorescence and light microscopy, cryosectioning, tissue culture, and transplantation.
- Experience processing and analyzing RNA‑sequencing and genome‑wide sequencing projects.
- Experience with imaging and word processing software (MS Office Suite).
- Experience training and supervising undergraduate students.
- Experience with data analyses using statistical software.

Salary: $19.00 per hour.
