About the Opportunity
Copperhead Environmental Consulting is expanding our team and actively seeking a Wildlife
Biologist II to join our family of professional consultants. We are seeking a candidate who is looking to develop a long‑term career in the environmental consulting industry and is open to diversification across the company.
This is a full‑time, exempt, salaried position, dedicated to a specific long‑term project with opportunity to work on additional projects during interim periods and thereafter. This position may either be based in Copperhead's headquarters location in Paint Lick, Kentucky or as a hybrid role in Asheville, NC.
Duties include task management, contributing to ESA and NEPA documents, preparing environmental reports, and performing surveys and analyzing environmental data in addition to field work.
Responsibilities- Perform technical writing, including but not limited to, biological assessments, biological evaluations, NEPA documentation, and survey reports
- Evaluate proposed projects through the lens of ESA and NEPA compliance, identify design features, and evaluate impacts on species and their habitat
- Successfully complete various surveys, including but not limited to, bats, birds, insects, fish, mussels, plants, wetlands, etc., and analyze survey data
- Assist with proposal development and project scoping
- Participate in client coordination calls and in‑person meetings
- Collect data and perform data analysis
- Travel as needed for team and client meetings, field work and other project requirements.
- Maintenance and care of field data and specimens
- Equipment and vehicle maintenance, prep, and decontamination

Candidates must be able to pass a background check and possess a valid driver's license in good standing. Post‑employment fit for duty drug tests may be required and are based on client/project requirements.
Requirements- Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology or closely related field of study
- At least 4 – 6 years of progressive experience in biological surveys and resource management
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others
- Experience performing as part of an interdisciplinary team of planners and resource experts
- Strong technical writing skills
- Ability to promote Copperhead’s services internally and externally
- The ideal candidate will also possess strong wildlife and plant identification skills and may hold applicable USFWS and/or state permits for completing surveys
- Candidates with experience conducting avian surveys will also be given top consideration
- Experience with wildlife species and habitats of the Southern Appalachians is a plus
- Ability to take initiative, resolve problems and ensure tasks are completed in the most effective and safe manner possible
- Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective and safe manner possible
- Must hold a valid driver’s license
- OSHA 10 or 30, First Aid/CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications a plus. If not already received, Copperhead will provide these certification opportunities upon employment. Individual must be required to earn these certifications to retain employment.
