Responsibilities
  • Under close supervision, assists employees of higher classification; under directive supervision, when qualified, engages in manual and clerical work involving a minor degree of skill in connection with the loading, unloading, receiving, processing, storage and shipping of materials and equipment.
  • Lifting, moving, loading, unloading and placing materials by means of lift‑type trucks, overhead cranes or monorail equipment operated from the floor, and performing routine operations in this connection; driving company motor vehicles as required.
  • Performing simple lifting and moving operations of material by means of overhead electric cranes, being directed in these operations from the floor by an employee of higher classification.
  • Learning to operate track mobile and crawler‑type gasoline cranes, and to perform simple lifting operations as directed.
  • Performing simple sorting and counting operations of materials and equipment received and on hand; making entries of these counts either manually or into a computer file; placing materials and equipment in proper locations; following all procedures involving receipt and storage of radiation materials.
  • Performing boxing, crating and packing operations in connection with preparing materials for storage or shipment.
  • Performing simple filing operations, such as filing of charge and credit tickets, purchase orders, receiving reports and dray tickets; performing simple typing operations within the scope of this job; making identification labels, tags and banners, and attaching these to material or storage spaces; being familiar with radiation labels; following quality‑assurance requirements for separate storage of safety‑related materials awaiting receipt inspection or on hold due to noncompliance.
  • Obtaining items for use as test samples that involve simple selecting, cutting or measuring as directed.
  • Performing simple measuring and cutting operations in connection with obtaining stock materials; recoiling and cutting wire to required lengths; preparing surfaces for painting and painting items such as drums, ladders, nipples and barricades with brushes, spray guns or dipping tanks.
  • Using portable power or hand tools to cut up material.
  • Assisting in the repair of railroad tracks and roadways; repainting walls, fences and equipment; concrete and masonry work.
  • Cindering and spreading ice‑melting substances at railroad crossings; cleaning yards, equipment, buildings, sidewalks, driveways and seeding and mowing grass, raking lawns, cleaning and caring for flower beds and shrubbery; removing snow, ice, refuse and rubbish and disposing of same.
  • Checking, adding water and charging automotive‑type batteries as required.
  • Assisting in the performance of any task necessary in the event of emergency.
Qualifications
  • Must meet the company's requirements as to general qualifications.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to make practical calculations in arithmetic involving fractions and decimals; know common weights and measures and take simple measurements.
  • Must have the ability to make simple records and reports legibly on the forms used in the work.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a working knowledge of the items handled and the practices and procedures of the department as required in performance of the duties.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a working knowledge of the safe applications and use of the trucks, cranes, rigging slings, bars, rollers and other equipment used in the work.
  • Must learn the principles of operation and the proper application of the fire‑fighting equipment installed at the location to which assigned, and the first aid and resuscitation practices prescribed by the Company.
  • Must be willing to work in radiation fields within the limits permitted by governmental regulations.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted plant access to work at a nuclear power plant.
