The Department of Political Science at Bowling Green State University seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor to teach undergraduate courses in Political Science, focusing on American politics. This is a nonrenewable (one-year), full-time academic year appointment with a start date of August 2026.
Information about Program and CollegeThe Department of Political Science offers a baccalaureate degree (B.A.) in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration, as well as a minor in Political Science, a minor in Non‑profit Management, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Fire Administration—a public administration degree for fire service officers. The department values innovative pedagogies and experiential learning and is a growing, research‑active unit with 16 full‑time faculty.
PrimaryResponsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach general education classes in American government and other undergraduate courses in American politics as needed. The expected teaching load is four courses (12 credit hours) per semester. Providing service to the department, college, and university is expected, particularly in relation to the implementation of the American Civic Literacy requirement and collaboration with the Integrated Social Studies Program.
Required Qualifications- ABD or Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely related field (e.g., government)
- Area of specialization in American politics
- Experience as instructor of record in at least one political‑science college‑level course, focusing on American government
- Experience in classes of more than fifty students
- One publication in a peer‑reviewed political science (or related) journal
- Ph.D. in hand at time of application
- Letter of interest detailing relevant teaching experience

- Additional materials such as syllabi, evidence of teaching effectiveness, teaching philosophy, etc., may be requested at later stages of the search
