Learning Commons Tutors
Learning Commons Tutors support the academic success of all BGSU students by providing assistance in a variety of subject areas, including math, statistics, writing, and other course content. Tutors help students build the skills and confidence necessary to approach academic challenges independently and effectively.

Assist students from the BGSU community with understanding course content, solving problems, and developing effective learning strategies.
Encourage active learning and support students in becoming independent, resourceful learners.
Offer constructive feedback and insights, whether in subject-specific or writing-focused sessions, tailored to each student’s needs and goals.
Facilitate exam reviews and study sessions for specific courses or topics.
Represent The Learning Commons by presenting to groups about available tutoring services.
Participate in ongoing professional development, including regular staff meetings and training opportunities.
Demonstrated success in relevant subject areas (typically a grade of B or higher in courses to be tutored).
Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt communication to meet individual student needs.
Patience, active listening, and a supportive attitude toward all learners.
Upholds university policies and fosters a respectful, ethical learning environment.
Openness to feedback, participation in training sessions, and engagement in professional development.
Flexible hours: no minimum number of hours needed.
Students may tutor in one or more service area (writing, math, and/or other classes).
