Job OverviewAt the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We achieve this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws. The Environmental Specialist 2 will support the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) in overseeing solid waste management facilities throughout Northwest Ohio.
Responsibilities- Lead engineering and technical reviews for solid waste facilities, including municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, industrial landfills, waste transfer stations, and processing facilities.
- Review permit applications, engineering documents, and technical reports for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct field inspections of regulated facilities and construction activities to ensure proper operations, quality control, and to investigate complaints.
- Provide technical assistance to boards of health, local and municipal officials, county commissioners, and industry professionals regarding solid waste rules, operational best practices, and siting proposals.
- Support and coordinate agency enforcement activities for non‑compliant facilities, including documentation and compliance follow‑up.
- baccalaureate degree in engineering (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical)
* or* four years of training or experience in a related engineering position. - Or twelve months of experience as an Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
- Preferred experience in sanitary engineering, geotechnical, civil, environmental, agricultural, or chemical engineering.
