Our client is seeking Electrical Engineers - Power Systems Commissioning to support the safe, reliable, and efficient commissioning and startup of power generation and energy infrastructure. This role provides electrical engineering expertise throughout pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and turnover, ensuring systems are properly tested, verified, and ready for operation.

Contract Duration: 12 months | W2

Responsibilities:
Commissioning & Startup Execution
  • Support loop checks, calibration, and protection system verification.
  • Perform testing, verification, and troubleshooting during pre-commissioning, energization, and startup.
  • Execute electrical testing including insulation resistance, hi-pot, relay testing, and functional verification.
  • Validate power system studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) against as-built conditions prior to energization.
  • Lead and support electrical commissioning activities for switch gear, transformers, generators, and protection/control systems.
FAT/SAT & Turnover
  • Identify, track, and resolve punch-list items prior to system handover.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, PSSR, and RFSU processes to ensure systems meet startup requirements.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning documentation including ITRs, test records, redlines, and turnover packages.
Field Troubleshooting & Vendor Coordination
  • Work directly in the field to support testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors during installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and all required safety protocols.
  • Support integration and system-level testing for BESS, power generation assets, and electrical distribution systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and standardized commissioning processes.
  • Work closely with Project Management, Construction, Controls, Commissioning, and Operations teams to ensure aligned execution.
Qualifications (Must-Haves)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Proficiency with power system analysis tools (ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Experience with protection relay testing and electrical test equipment (Omicron, Doble, Megger)
  • 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or commissioning within power generation, industrial, or related environments.
  • Understanding of:
    Protection coordination and arc flash analysis, Grid integration and energy storage systems, DCS/SCADA systems and electrical integration.
  • Working knowledge of:
    Electrical power systems and equipment (switch gear, transformers, generators), Electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and control systems and Commissioning, testing, and startup processes.
Preferred

Skills:
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or actively pursuing.
  • Familiarity with FAT/SAT execution and turnover processes.
  • Experience with power generation, data centers, or BESS systems.
  • Experience supporting or leading commissioning and startup activities.
Work Environment:
  • Requires adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Field-based role supporting active construction, commissioning, and startup environments.
Work Schedule &

Physical Requirements:
  • 12‑hour rotating 7‑day on/off shifts.
  • Occasional night and holiday shiftwork.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; team‑lift heavier loads.
  • Use hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, and squat for extended periods.
  • Work at elevated levels using ladders, scaffolding, or lifts.
  • Work in extreme temperatures, loud areas, and confined spaces.
