Fall 2026 Undergraduate Intern, Affiliate Support & Nationwide Initiatives
Hybrid - South Dakota
Qualifications: Current matriculated undergraduate or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
The ACLU Communications department for the North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming Chapter creates and maintains message narratives to engage supporters and aid in protecting civil liberties.
What You’ll Do:
The Digital Communications Intern will help execute the chapter’s storytelling and social media objectives, growing digital presence, improving storytelling, and engaging followers.
- Assist with the ACLU’s Election Observer program through volunteer recruitment, communication, and organization.
- Plan and lead community events to educate and mobilize citizen engagement.
- Participate in coalition meetings and phone calls to gather and share information with partners.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the ACLU.
- Commit to diversity and inclusivity within the office.
- Collaborate respectfully to resolve obstacles and conflicts.
Requirements:
- Interest in video production, journalism, and audio storytelling; experience with video editing and editorial work preferred.
- Experience on Tik Tok, Instagram, Threads, and X (formerly Twitter) professionally; advocacy or organizing experience a plus.
- Understanding of internet and social media trends.
- Attention to detail and strong writing and research skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize.
Internship Logistics:
- Location: Hybrid from the Sioux Falls, South Dakota office.
- Time Commitment: Part‑time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
- Duration: 12 consecutive weeks, starting September 8th or September 21st.
- Stipend: $20 per hour for undergraduate students or equivalent experience.
