The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for an Explosives Safety Specialist (NH-0017-03) to work at the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth AFB, Located in Rapid City, SD.

In this position you will manage a diverse weapons and explosives safety program involving diverse environmental, ground, aviation, construction, weapons and explosives activities and provide advisory aircraft systems weapons and explosives safety services.

This is a Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) position.

Salary Range is $75,706 - $117,034 Annually based on experience.

Requirements For This Position
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • Position is designated special-sensitive and requires a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with eligibility for access to Sensitive
  • Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance.
  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. It is required that you (a) refrain from the use of illegal drugs and (b) if requested, submit to urinalysis testing.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
Recruitment Knowledges, Skills, And Abilities (ksa)
  • Knowledge of established weapons and explosives safety principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues related to the military installation weapons and explosives safety program; the requirements, methods, and techniques of accident and mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of safety problems, and formal reporting procedures; and risk assessment methods and techniques for evaluation of weapons and explosives safety risks.
  • Knowledge of basic explosives safety construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of standard training techniques, methods, and materials sufficient to develop and present formal training and instructional sessions.
  • Skill in conducting mishap investigations; analyzing and evaluating hazardous conditions; preparing reports and recommendations; and addressing risk assessment methods and techniques for safety code compliance.
  • Skill in the interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications sufficient to identify hazardous conditions in proposed facilities.
  • Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
