Position: Sioux Falls Area Director I

Job Purpose

Lead the Young Life ministry in the Sioux Falls area to reach adolescents with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, develop leaders, and build on a strong foundation of ministry and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Spiritual Development
    • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life.
    • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within a church community.
    • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
    • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
    • Ensure all area ministry is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer.
  • Leadership Development
    • Partner with Regional Director and Committee to cast vision for reaching every target.
    • Develop consistent gatherings with committee, leaders and staff to build unity.
    • Create a spiritual leadership plan for volunteer leaders, staff and committee members.
    • Recruit and train new staff and leaders to build leadership teams that reflect the community.
    • Supervise, develop and evaluate area staff, providing needed resources and experiences.
    • Provide quality summer staff, work crew and adult guests for summer camps.
    • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping activities to other leaders.
    • Train leaders, team leaders and committee on effective teamwork and yearly ministry strategy.
  • Resource Development
    • Lead the TDS team and committee to find partners who own the area vision and budget.
    • Develop and lead the area’s fundraising strategy and ensure excellence in communication to donors.
    • Raise necessary funds to carry out the ministry vision, maintaining a surplus of at least one month’s cash reserve.
    • Build the Young Life brand via public relations as a tool for engaging youth.
    • Coordinate and conduct quality events that reflect Young Life’s capacity to impact kids and justify participant investment.
  • Direct Ministry
    • Actively engage in contact work at all three levels.
    • Lead or co‑lead a model Young Life club; supervise an effective Campaigner ministry.
    • Observe and evaluate each of the schools/ministries in the local area on a yearly basis.
    • Develop and implement ongoing plans to maximize Gospel proclamation through camping opportunities.
    • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life property, another camp or a different position each summer.
  • Ministry Support
    • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism.
    • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability and transparency using the mission‑wide applications.
    • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
    • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to all participants.
    • Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every target and review them regularly.
    • Perform other duties as assigned that align with gifts, experience and area needs.
    • Accept both short and long‑term assignments of projects.
  • Training
    • Participate in mission‑wide staff conference every four years.
    • Attend regional training as directed by the regional director.
    • Pursue continuing educational opportunities, including graduate degrees.
    • Participate in programs for personal spiritual maturity or enrichment.
    • Attend seminars designed to enhance professional skills.
  • Supervision
    • Supervise 1 to 3 clubs and/or ministries.
    • Supervise 0 to 25 volunteers.
  • Working Conditions
    • Will include extremes of a camp assignment: heat/cold, dirt, long hours and physical demands such as hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc.
    • Staff person must be able to handle these conditions.
Qualifications
  • Requires 1+ year of related ministry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams.
  • Proven leadership and relational skills with both children and adults.
  • A call to reach children with the Gospel.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must complete Core Training – Phase One within 36 months of hire date.
  • College degree preferred.
