Work involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical/electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. The National Electrical Code and all other applicable standards and specifications are followed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Demonstrate safe work habits, comply with company safety requirements
- Measure, cut and bend conduit, using a tape measure and hand tools
- Pull electrical wire and cable in conduit using manual and power equipment
- Move/handle various equipment and spools of wire
- Install electrical raceways and wire, conduit, lighting fixtures, controls, machinery and electrical distribution equipment
- Install and bend conduit using manual, mechanical and hydraulic benders
- Properly care for material, tools and equipment
- Assist electricians by performing various tasks
- Operate power tools such as drills, saws, pullers, tuggers, etc.
- Install and maintain secondary distribution systems
- Install and connect power supply wiring to and between machines and equipment by following manuals, schematics, and blueprints
- Test malfunctioning equipment and repair or replace faulty wires, cables, or electronic components
- Install and maintain distribution boxes, switching gear, power and control circuits, etc.
- Install and maintain telephone equipment
- Use common courtesy in everyday contacts with employees, clients, and the general public
- Carry a pager or cell phone and be on‑call when necessary
- Work as required in varying weather climates
- Travel out of town and stay overnight as required
- Teach, train, and guide electrical apprentices working under licensed Journey workers
- Must be able to physically lift up to and in excess of 75 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders and steep stairs, crawl, stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, sit, reach, push and pull objects
- Use arms, hands and fingers repetitively
- Wear personal protective equipment
- Work at elevated heights on ladders and/or scaffolds
- Have specific vision abilities required
- Work up to ten to twelve hour days
- Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or one or more years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience and has a valid state Journey worker’s license in the applicable state in which the electrician works out of.
