Nutrition Aide

USD Head Start is seeking a Nutrition Aide for the Head Start classroom in Beresford. The position is part‑time and works from mid‑August until the end of May each year.

Responsibilities include serving breakfast and/or lunch and preparing and serving snacks for children ages 3‑5 attending a Head Start classroom.

Preferred applicants have experience with food service and with children ages 3‑5. Must pass a fingerprint background check.

Advertised Salary:
Starting rate $16.50 per hour, commensurate with qualifications, plus benefits.

Duration of the Term: 9.5 months.

Appointment Percent: 47.5% during the 9.5‑month term.

Position: 19 hours per week with a ½ hour unpaid lunch Monday‑Friday.

Protective equipment such as a kitchen apron, hairnet, and masks are provided. Physical requirements include crouching, squatting, or kneeling to interact with small children, lifting food service containers up to counter height to serve, bending to set/clean tables at child height, pushing a food cart back to the kitchen, and standing for meal prep, cleaning, and during interactions with children. Sensory requirements include near vision, peripheral vision, speaking, vision (with and without corrective lenses), depth perception, and hearing.

Potential exposures include noise, extreme weather conditions, vaccinations recommended due to potential occupational exposure, rough or uneven surfaces, changes of temperature, chemical hazards, electrical current, and exposure to blood/body fluids.
