EHS Biosafety Officer – Animal Health
We are looking for an EHS Biosafety Officer to serve as the site’s biosafety expert in Boxmeer, ensuring safe and compliant management of biological agents and GMO-related activities across research and manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities- Act as a subject‑matter expert for the Biosafety program and anticipate, recognize, and evaluate workplace health hazards to recommend control strategies.
- Identify and assess biosafety risks, develop and implement corrective and preventive action plans, and monitor and communicate plan status.
- Proactively identify improvement opportunities and collaborate with EHS staff, engineering, operations, and R&D to leverage best practices and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain technical competencies and regulatory knowledge for effective execution of responsibilities.
- Conduct risk assessments of biological operations, design control strategies (engineering controls and work‑practice controls), and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Establish and maintain communication processes so site management and employees understand biohazards, risk prevention methods, and control strategies.
- Provide technical support for engineering projects and modifications to ensure proper biocontainment facility design, containment verification, and evaluation before and after process or equipment installation.
- Conduct biosafety program assessments, area inspections, and audits.
- Develop and contribute to an effective biosafety training program for management and employees.
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biotechnology, or a similar field.
- Industrial (occupational) hygiene or safety engineering education is a plus.
- Experience managing risks associated with biological agents and GMO legislation (BVF permit).
- Understanding of biocontainment systems and concepts.
- Ability to analyze data, interpret results and trends, and recommend cost‑effective corrective actions.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work transparently and with a sense of urgency across roles.
- Excellent technical leadership and communication skills (oral and written) in English;
Dutch language skills are preferable.
