Summer is almost here, and the City of Bozeman is now recruiting Short Term Recreation Leaders! Spend your summer making an impactful difference in our community working with school‑aged children at our beautiful Story Mill Community Center and Park! Recreation Leaders are the stars of our summer camps and are responsible for a wide range of activities, from planning and implementing camp programs to making sure our campers and team alike have an outstanding summer.
We will be hiring one short‑term worker who is available to work weekday evenings starting May 4, 2026 to assist with our little league T‑Ball program, and the rest of our summer team will start on May 26, 2026. We are looking for employees who can work through at least August 21, 2026.
Plan and implement youth summer camps, after‑camp care, and community events. All positions work Monday through Friday with some special events & facility checks on weekends throughout the summer. Specific shifts available are listed below:
- Full‑time positions, 40 hours/week, 8 am‑4 pm.
- Part‑time positions, 20 hours/week, either 8 am‑12 pm, 12 pm‑4 pm OR 2 pm‑6 pm

Length of Season:Ideally May 26 - August 21, 2026.
Assignment Details:Not to exceed 90 working days or 520 hours, whichever comes first.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Develops, organizes, and leads a wide variety of recreational activities, including arts and crafts, games, classes, sports, and camps.
- Maintains active supervision, enforces safety protocols, and creates a physically and emotionally safe environment at all times.
- Engages with children in all camp activities, including field games, arts and crafts, and City Park trails.
- Interacts with parents, participants, public and other City of Bozeman employees and responds to inquiries in a courteous and timely manner.
- Performs cleaning duties including mopping, vacuuming, washing, disinfecting, and putting away supplies after camp activities.
- May utilize City vehicles to transport equipment and supplies to City parks and facilities for camps and events.
- Ensures the safety of all participants within an assigned recreation program, including maintaining the cleanliness and organization of equipment, materials, and facilities, and completing accident and incident reports.
- Conducts recreation facility checks to include cleaning, inspecting for and reporting damage to Supervisor.
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
- Performs other directly related duties as assigned.
- Some experience working with children is desired, but not required.
- Some experience with recreation programming is desired, but not required.
- Must be of legal age to perform the duties of the position, at least 15 years old.
- Candidates over the age of 18 must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Adult, Child and Infant First Aid/CPR/AED Certification must be completed within two (2) weeks of hire (training and certification will be provided by the City.)
- Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory responses to appropriate post conditional offer process.
- Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn Recreation Division functions, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
- Ability to work well with supervisors, coworkers, campers and their guardians, and the public.
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
- Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
- Demonstrates integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
