Position Overview
The Department of History and Philosophy seeks part‑time, non‑tenure track instructors in the discipline of philosophy to teach introductory and occasionally upper‑division courses on an as‑needed basis.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach introductory‑level philosophy courses.
- Occasionally teach upper‑division philosophy courses.
- Courses are available from one semester to the next, depending on departmental needs and funding.
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Philosophy or a related field, with an academic background commensurate with teaching in the discipline.
- Terminal degree in an appropriate field.
- Previous teaching experience in similar courses.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Have effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students.
- Demonstrate the ability to relate to and establish rapport with a college student population.
- Exercise good judgment and self‑motivation.
- Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
- Possess a strong interest in student success.
- Be committed to quality teaching.
- Non‑Tenure Track Faculty positions at or above .5 FTE are represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU); employees may choose to pay membership dues.
- Positions below .5 FTE are not represented by the Union and are not required to pay dues.
- Union representational status may change if FTE changes during employment.
- Exemptions: completed PEI exam or faculty working in Extension.
