Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide high-quality instruction and to perform related academic duties as needed. Instructional assignments are contingent upon departmental needs and the availability of funding. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and will be maintained in the pool for up to two years; after two years candidates will be notified to resubmit their application materials for continued consideration.
Non‑tenure‑track appointments may be part‑time or full‑time and vary in duration. Salary is dependent on the number of courses taught and the duration of the appointment.
- Instructors typically teach 1 to 5 language classes per semester.
- All positions are pending adequate enrollment and funding.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a foreign university.
- A Master’s degree or equivalent from a foreign university in Japanese or a closely related field, or relevant knowledge and experience appropriate to the position (e.g., superior level proficiency; extensive residence abroad, etc.).
- Proficiency level in Japanese appropriate to the position.
- PhD in Japanese or another relevant discipline.
- Superior level proficiency in Japanese.
- Experience teaching at the college level.
Have effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate successfully and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
Union Association- All positions .5 FTE or more are represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues. This is a condition of employment.
- Positions less than .5 FTE are not represented by the union and are not required to pay dues.
- Exceptions:
Individuals who have successfully completed a PEI exam or are faculty working in Extension are exempt from the union.
