General Statement
- This appointment will be on a part-time basis, depending on the specific needs of the department/program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach on-campus course Comx
111us – Intro to Public Speaking, separate two hour recitations, plus a one hour lecture that combines multiple recitation sections. Instructor lecture = Deliver content focused on communication theories and strategies while modeling components of effective public speaking. Recitation = Practical applications and student speeches. We hope to attract applicants who are committed to helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Degree in Communications or related field. A master's degree.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Experience teaching at the college or university level. Experience teaching public speaking. Working knowledge of technical presentation formats.
The Successful Candidate Will
- Create and implement engaging student learning experiences. Modify and adapt curriculum components to meet individual student needs. Develop and employ appropriate assessment techniques. Possess the ability to relate, work effectively and establish rapport with a diverse student population. Have highly effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students. Take initiative and work well independently.
Have excellent written and oral communication skills. Possess strong interest in student success. Have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and add intellectual diversity to the department. Have knowledge of or willingness to learn and utilize variety of technologies to support their teaching such as online learning platforms, lecture captures, video conferencing tools.
