Position Overview

The University of Macau’s Residential Colleges System invites applications for the role of College Master. The selected candidate is expected to assume duty as soon as mutually practicable.

The College Master provides academic and administrative leadership to an individual residential college, advancing its mission as a dynamic academic and social community dedicated to whole‑person development of students. Responsibilities include overseeing the implementation of the college’s five educational measures, planning and coordinating educational activities with the Associate Master and Resident Fellows, and supervising college staff to ensure efficient operation. The role requires functioning effectively in a multilingual environment where Cantonese and Mandarin are widely used while English remains the working language.

The College Master is normally a senior scholar who may continue teaching and research and may be concurrently affiliated with an academic unit. The appointment is for a term of up to three years, renewable on mutual agreement.

• Earned doctoral degree, preferably from a reputable university.
• Rank of Full Professor with balanced experience in teaching, research, and service; or at least ten years of distinguished professional experience relevant to residential or collegiate education comparable to UM’s model.
• Demonstrated experience in student services with a clear commitment to holistic, whole‑person education.
• Proven administrative and managerial experience in a higher education institution.
• Strong record of publications or scholarly contributions in residential or collegiate education is highly desirable.
• Recognised standing and social influence within local and/or regional communities is highly desirable.

A taxable annual remuneration ranging from MOP1,250,200 to MOP1,447,600 (approximately USD
154,350 to USD
178,720) will be commensurate with academic qualifications and relevant professional experience. The University offers additional benefits including medical insurance, provident fund, and other subsidies. Residence in the college is mandatory, with accommodation provided rent‑free.
