Instructor of Architecture Non-Tenure Track Faculty (Applicant Pool)
The School of Architecture seeks an instructor(s) qualified to teach one or more of the following courses in Environmental Design/Architecture depending upon available funding:
Funding, Architectural Design Studios, Architectural Structures, Architectural Graphics, Graduate Level Elective Courses, Professional Practice, Building Construction, Sustainability, Research Methods, Theory, Environmental Control Systems.
Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities
- We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a broad University community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from various backgrounds succeed. Teaching on-campus courses. Advising, evaluating, and assisting students. Curriculum and/or course development. Participating in faculty meetings. Meeting regularly with, collaborating with, and evaluating peer leader if one is assigned to your section. Participating in mid and final departmental studio reviews
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Foundations: A design related degree OR a demonstrated record o distinguished teaching related to design. Architectural Design Studios: A professional degree in Architecture or a demonstrated record of distinguished practice in architectural design OR a demonstrated record of distinguished teaching. Architectural Structures: A professional degree in Architecture OR Architectural Engineering OR Civil Engineering OR related field or a demonstrated record of distinguished practice and distinction in structural engineering.
Architectural Graphics: A professional degree in Architecture OR significant professional experience AND demonstrated record of accomplishment in architectural graphics; hand and/or digital. Graduate Electives: A degree in the area of expertise OR significant professional experience in the area of expertise. Professional Practice: licensed architect and demonstrated record of experience in a wide range of building project types. Sustainability:
Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or research in sustainability, Net Zero design, ecological design and the Living Building Challenge. Building Construction: licensed architect or engineer with demonstrated record of experience in a wide range of building projects and phases. Research Methods/Theory: A professional degree in Architecture OR a demonstrated record of distinguished practice in architectural design AND/OR research/theory or a demonstrated record of distinguished teaching Environmental Control Systems: A professional degree in Architecture OR a demonstrated record of accomplishment in environmental control systems Demonstrated experience working with and engaging students and colleagues within and outside the department
The Successful Candidate Will
- Have the ability to relate to freshmen and to develop classroom rapport with students The ability to mentor and inspire a broad student body. Have effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty and staff Possess excellent written, graphic, and oral communication skills Be skilled in utilizing engaging pedagogy that involves students in the learning process Take initiative and work well independently The potential to provide leadership and to assume responsibility for organizational and program activities.
