Job Overview
CTL|Thompson, Inc. is looking for a Project Engineer to work full‑time at our Bozeman, MT office. The role involves managing and completing complex design projects for commercial, residential, and municipal structures.

- Provide direct engineering service and project management using in‑house tools
- Support and manage construction observation and materials testing (COMT) services, coordinating field staff, schedules, and testing needs
- Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to staff engineers and field engineering technicians performing COMT work
- Perform field inspections and construction observations to evaluate conformance with plans, specifications, and applicable standards
- Review daily field reports, inspection documentation, and lab test results for completeness and accuracy
- Perform engineering analysis on residential, commercial, and municipal projects and provide recommendations to clients
- Use relevant software to aid with project analysis
- Collaborate with other engineers and architects to develop coordinated designs
- Conduct geotechnical investigations for foundations, slope stability, pavement design, and earth retention
- Perform testing and sampling on geotechnical materials, log borings, and review lab tests for engineering analysis
- Prepare project documentation including plans, reports, letters, and proposals
- Review and stamp recommendations, calculations, and plans created by staff for delivery to clients
- Create and maintain client relationships; attend project meetings
- B.S. in Civil or related engineering field (M.S. preferred)
- At least 5 years of experience in the specified field
- Current Professional Engineer license in the state of employment or ability to obtain within 6 months (licensure in other states accepted)
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of current code requirements; experience with AutoCAD
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work well in a team
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Good judgment in decision making and project management
Physical Requirements
Work occurs in outside field environments, laboratories, and office settings. Field work requires exposure to rain, snow, cold, and heat; use of PPE and safety equipment is routine. Physical requirements include prolonged periods of sitting, lifting up to 50 lb, walking on uneven terrain, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
