Description Summary
The Water & Wastewater Project Engineer 2 provides advanced-level planning and design on large, complex water and wastewater systems including treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations, storage facilities, and other water-related facilities with limited oversight. Duties include attending site visits, calculating pressure, flow and capacities, designing underground and above-ground piping systems, selecting and specifying equipment, coordinating with government agencies and other stakeholders, and preparing plans, specifications and estimated costs for project bidding and construction with very little oversight.
The person in this position is expected to exercise a strong work ethic, a desire to learn new design concepts, be willing to mentor others with less experience, apply sound judgement to project decisions, and have great organizational and communication skills. A Water & Wastewater Project Engineer 2 should demonstrate advanced proficiency with water/wastewater design software and be able to quickly apply design concepts to complicated projects.
This person is expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and seek guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary.

Team player and team leader with the ability to follow on large or complex projects. Provides clear communication and direction, sets expectations, and takes responsibility for results of the team.
Project DeliveryLeads the production of and provides quality control for the following:
- Engineering reports, facility plans, and economic analysis for small- to mid-sized systems for water/sewer/pump station/treatment/storage components
- Equipment evaluation and selection
- Hydraulic profiles
- Familiar with instrumentation and controls, multi-discipline coordination
- Manage construction phase of multi-discipline projects
- Prepare client presentations
Advanced understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets. Develops budgets and schedules for complex projects in conjunction with the project manager. Able to prioritize multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget. Mentors others on above.

- Governing state water/WW rules
- AWWA standards (water)
- Uniform Fire Code
- NFPA
820 Fire Code for WW Facilities - 10 state standards
- LT2 SWTR
- NPDES permits
- Actively mentor others on interpreting design codes
- Understands limitations of design codes
Frequent direct communications with clients on large/complex projects. Leads technical client project meetings. Understands appropriate messaging and legal risks. Participates in project interviews.

Level of Work/AccountabilityPrimarily performs advanced technical tasks on complex, demanding projects for the market sector. Operates with a high level of autonomy. Reviews the work of others. Mentors others with less experience. May provide some project management services.
