As members of the MSU IT community, Network Analysts participate in and support IT efforts, projects, and initiatives, provide technical leadership and assist other support personnel with problems related to the usage of services across the network services portfolio. Network Analysts perform technically skilled precision work and provide complete, enterprise-level engineering, installation, management, maintenance and support of network and telecommunications equipment, software, services, communications cabling, and related infrastructure, including UPS, PDU, pathways, racks and cabinets.
Network Analysts respond to issues, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair these items to address problems found in data centers, telecommunications rooms, and at field sites on and off the MSU Bozeman campus according to standard procedure and industry best practices. Network Analysts’ work schedules may require non-standard working hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Join us at our beautiful Montana State University campus located in Bozeman, Montana, for an exciting opportunity to contribute as a member of our talented Network Services team. The Network Analyst II provides technical expertise in the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of network and telecommunications systems, including structured cabling and related infrastructure. Working under the direction of the Communication Wiring Supervisor and serving as a technical and work lead for daily field operations, this role ensures work is performed in accordance with applicable standards, codes, manufacturer requirements, and Montana State University Communications Wiring Standards.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, and maintain fiber-optic and copper structured cabling systems, including but not limited to Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6A, and shielded/unshielded twisted-pair (UTP/STP) cabling, across campus buildings and field sites.
- Lead day-to-day field operations by coordinating work activities, assigning and prioritizing daily tasks, and providing technical direction to ensure efficient and standards-compliant project execution.
- Perform quality control inspections of completed work, review test results and installations for compliance with applicable standards and specifications, and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
- Document installations, test results, network topology, equipment records, and inventory to support operational continuity, compliance, and future planning.
- Mentor and train staff and student employees on best practices, standards, equipment usage, testing procedures, and standards of compliance.
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment and assist with updating procedures and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience with communications cabling installations.
- Demonstrated experience using standard tools and equipment for the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of telecommunications and network infrastructure.
- Basic understanding of networking, telecommunications, and structured cabling concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of customer service and responsiveness.
